Publication of Kyoto Tourism Ethics Map

Distributed after November 18, 2023

The Kyoto Tourist Etiquette Map, which promotes tourist morals and etiquette in Kyoto, is available at the Kyoto General Tourist Information Center, the Kyoto City Tourist Association Secretariat, and other locations.

You can view and download it from Kyonavi Online.

Languages: Japanese, English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese

Distribution: 100,000 copies in total

Creating and implementing model tours to raise awareness of manners and morals using Kyoto City certified guide-interpreters

令和5年10月2日~10月21日 毎日実施

We have created a morals and manners awareness tour departing from Kyoto Station for foreign tourists using Kyoto City certified interpreter guides (Kyoto City Visitors Hosts). Through the tour, we will educate foreign tourists on the history and culture of Kyoto, as well as the morals and manners of empty-handed sightseeing, behavior on the train, and taking your trash home with you.

Destination: Arashiyama area/Fushimi Inari area 2 courses in total

Awareness-raising activities using the city government bulletin board

September 16th to September 30th, 2023

We will display information about "Kyoto tourist morals" and etiquette on city government information boards, which are set up in approximately 7,500 locations throughout the city, to raise awareness among tourists walking around the city.

FY2022 "Award for Excellent Businesses Promoting Sustainable Kyoto Tourism"

March 24, 2023

In order to promote the dissemination and further implementation of the "Kyoto Tourism Ethics," we have established the "Award for Excellent Businesses Promoting Sustainable Kyoto Tourism."
In fiscal year 2022, 25 businesses were selected as recipients of the award and an award ceremony was held.

In order to expand the base of tourism-related businesses that promote initiatives in line with the Kyoto Tourism Ethics, we are now accepting applications from businesses that have made the Kyoto Tourism Ethics Promotion Declaration.

Seminar on how to attract more customers to restaurants during the COVID-19 pandemic
- What are sustainable ways to attract visitors through Kyoto's tourism ethics?

We held a seminar where participants learned about the basic usage and results of Google Business Profiles, which are important for increasing customer numbers for restaurants, and how to make the most of Instagram, all in accordance with the Kyoto Tourism Code of Conduct (Kyoto Tourism Morals), which aims to create sustainable tourism in Kyoto.

March 2022

We created a promotional video to raise awareness of Kyoto tourism etiquette among people in the Tokyo metropolitan area and aired it on digital signage inside trains.

In order to allow people to experience and enjoy Kyoto on a deeper level, we have implemented a campaign for people who agree with the Kyoto Tourism Ethics and present proof of vaccination.

Industry volunteers clean up before welcoming tourists

October 27, 2021

In preparation for welcoming tourists, about 50 people, including maiko and employees of inns and hotels, took part in a cleaning activity to beautify the streets in Kyoto's downtown area.

Kyoto Tourism Ethics Workshop

September 2, 9, 28, and November 4, 2021

We invited volunteers from the industry and students from Kyoto University's Tourism MBA to hold a total of four workshops with the aim of generating ideas for public awareness tools that would serve as a stepping stone to putting Kyoto's tourism ethics into practice.
